Presidents’ Blog – April 2021

As I write this the sun is out, which always a positive in my book and, we continue to edge back to normal in terms of seeing & meeting people, which has to be a good thing!

We are planning some summer events for the Town currently – more details in May – but in the meantime what are we up to?

Firstly, there is our ‘Toiletries 4 Patients’ appeal supporting Frome Community Hospital – you can donate toiletries in the drop-in bins at Lloyds Chemists in Sainsbury’s or at FCH. These will go patients who are taken into hospital unexpectedly and may not have some of the basics with them.

Second, 6 of us – myself, Steve Cantrell, Adam Kotyrba, Bev Windley, Sean McCabe & Chris Bailey-Green are climbing Mount Everest! This is being done in aid of Forever Friends, the fundraising charity of the Royal United Hospital (RUH) Bath and it raises vital funds to support a range of innovative projects and capital redevelopments.

Charitable funds raised help unlock the very best in modern healthcare for our catchment population of more than half a million people across Bath, Somerset and Wiltshire – going above and beyond the remit of the NHS.

Are we seriously climbing Mount Everest?? – well, sort of…across April & May, in two teams, we will be going up our stairs a lot of times – socially distanced of course! Mount Everest is 8,848 metres high and that is a lot of flights of stairs – something like 50 flights a day for 2 months per team.

As we are doing this to raise funds rather than just for the ‘fun’ of it, I would encourage you to donate by visiting the ‘Sofa to Summit’ fundraising appeal:

Oh, and finally we are launching ‘Portrait of a Lion’ shortly via Facebook and on our website so please watch out for that.
