Presidents’ Blog – January 2022

Firstly, a big thank-you to the wonderful people of Frome & the surrounding villages for supporting both our annual Tree of Remembrance and the Santa Float in such a BIG way – record amounts donated totalling over £21K when added together!

Many of us start each New Year with a resolution – often involving eating/drinking less or exercising more – but what should a resolution be?

My dictionary defines resolution as “a firm decision to do or not to do something” – so, expanding that a little, resolutions are personal and meaningful, made with a clarity of mind and a determination to succeed. And I would add another aspect here – whatever our resolutions for 2022, we should consider the impact on others and/or the planet at the same time.

Perhaps therefore the best New Year resolutions are those that improve our own lives and that of others elsewhere too, both in the immediate and longer-term.

How does that link to Lions? Lions Clubs serve our communities locally and in over 150 countries around the world. We respond to needs today and help build for the future, so as part of your new year, why not join us or help at an event?

Next up is our 1st Quiz of 2022 on Friday Jan 7th at the Rugby Club, then the return of our annual Sponsored Swim at the Leisure Centre on March 20th. Why not enter a team for either or both?

Full details are on our NEW website www.fromelions.org.uk

Wishing you all a happy and successful 2022.
