Prostate Screening Event

Prostate Screening Event. Saturday the 29th March. At Frome Masonic Hall, North Parade, Frome, BA11 1AU

Frome Lions Club are hosting this FREE event in conjunction with Somerset Prostate Support Association (SPSA) and Frome Freemasons, & the Richard Oatley Foundation, on Saturday 29th March 10 am – 4 pm for men aged 40 and over.

Every year in the UK 40,000 men are diagnosed with Prostate cancer and around 10,000 die from the disease. Early diagnosis can be crucial to successful treatment.

Appointments take 10-15 minutes and MUST be BOOKED IN ADVANCE. It will NOT be possible to be tested on the day without a prior appointment.

All tests are confidential and are carried out by qualified medical practitioners.

Frome Lions are once again inviting Clubs and organisations in the Frome area to assist them to support a local good cause and at the same time raise much needed funds for themselves.This year’s swim is being held on Sunday 16th March 2025 at The Frome Leisure Centre.The swim is open to all clubs, business houses, schools, associations, youth organisations, family groups etc. There is no limit to the number of teams entered by any one organisation, but no swimmer may enter in more than one team.Swimming will take place in 25 minute sessions from 12:00 Noon with each member of the team obtaining their own sponsors.We will commence the afternoon with the pool configured for swimming widths rather than lengths for any team that wishes to swim widths.The sponsorship money will be shared (50/50) between a charity of your choice or your own Club/School funds and Frome Lions Club Charitable Trust. Unfortunately the lights on our Tree of Remembrance were damaged following the storm on Saturday night and are currently not working. We are desperately trying to remedy the situation but as you can appreciate trying to identify the break in the cable and affecting a repair given that the tree is 21 feet tall is proving to be a challenge. The Lions Tree of Remembrance 2024 situated in the front of Rook Lane chapel was officially switched on, on the 29th November. A Carol Service and Blessing of the Tree was conducted by the Rev Jill Warren and the Music was supplied by members of Frome Town Band. The Tree and the Lights are there to remember loved ones or memorable causes at this special time of year and donations made to the Lions are used to help good causes in and around Frome.A Memorial Board with the names of loved ones or memorable causes will be displayed at the entrance to Rook Lane Chapel.Your donations this year will be used by the Lions to primarily support a Prostate Cancer screening program to be held in March next year and other local charities and good causes.
